Have you ever wanted to make a difference in the world but you weren't sure what you could do? We would like to share a way you can make a difference!
In August 2009, some of us learned about an organization called "KIVA" whose mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty around the world. KIVA is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website that empowers individuals to lend to unique entrepreneurs around the globe.
The people you see on KIVA's website are real individuals. When you browse entrepreneurs' profiles on KIVA, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan, you are helping a real person take great strides toward economic independence which will lead to an improved life for themselves, their family, and their community. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates and track repayments. Then, when your loan is repaid, you can re-lend to another individual. KIVA has a re-payment rate of 98.04%.
