West Market Street UMC strives to give everyone, both members and nonmembers, the opportunity to be the church in the community and the world. We are committed to serving the people Jesus served: The poor, oppressed, lonely, sick, and forgotten - we are always "sold out" for missions.
On the local level, we demonstrate the Good News of Jesus through programs that feed, house, and support individuals and families in need. Programs: CROP Walk
, Greensboro Urban Ministry
, Greensboro Urban Ministry Food Drive
s, Habitat for Humanity
, Hot Dish and Hope
, Meals on Wheels
, Potter's House
, Salvation Army
, Washington Montessori School
, Winter Emergency Shelter (WE! Shelter)
, and others,
On the national and global level, West Market has ongoing vibrant ministries in Appalachia, Bulgaria, Guatemala, and Kenya. WMS KIDS are also involved in Nothing But Nets
- an antimalaria program in Africa. We are also connected throughout the world through the United Methodist Commmittee on Relief (UMCOR)
We have mission projects and teams for all ages and people in all states of life: Glow, Mission Possible, and GO Missions for students in kindergarden through middle school, summer mission trips for children and youth, Intergenerational teams that travel to Bulgaria, and adult mission teams that serve in Greensboro, where needed in the US, Guatemala, and Kenya. In addition to our work in local missions.
