Ministers and specially trained lay people are always on hand to help members with
their personal faith journeys, joys, sorrows, quests and growth. Shepherds
befriend shut-ins and those needing visits on a regular basis. Grief
workshops are periodically offered to those dealing with issues related to death
of a loved one or loss of health, relationship, job, or divorce.
WMSUMC supports Chrysalis Counseling Center, a ministry of the United Methodist
Church.
Celebrate Recovery - A faith-based, Christ-centered 12-step
program for people seeking help with recovering their life from
destructive hurts, habits and hangups.
The Membership Care Team
is made up of a number of church members feeling called to help care for
WMSUMC’s church family. The team is divided up into smaller groups which respond
to a variety of needs.
The Consolation Ministry Team follows
up when there is a death of a church member or someone who is a close
relative of a church member (i.e. father, mother, spouse, brother, sister).
The Health and Welfare Group
identifies programs and resources which may be helpful to members of WMSUMC.
They also sponsor some health-related programs from time to time (i.e. First
Place Weight Loss Program set up by Sandra Howell, our Parish Nurse).
The Food and Hospitality Group
provides food to families who have lost loved ones, but have no family in
town and who have no close association with groups in the church like United
Methodist Women’s Circles or Sunday School Class. The idea was to keep
people not involved in the church from falling through the cracks when death
occurs.
The Pastoral Care and Counseling Team
offers pastoral care and counseling to members of the church, visits persons
who are homebound or in facilities, visits hospitals and other health care
facilities and follows up on health and other crises. They also run the
Divorce Recovery Program.
The New Member Assimilation Group
seeks to find ways to help involve persons who join the church in activities
of the church.
The Inactive Membership Group is
working to contact some of our more recent inactive members in the hope of
helping them become active again. They would also like to ask Sunday School
classes to be vigilant and follow up with members when they miss more than
two or three Sundays in a row.
The Congregational Visitation Team is
a group of lay persons (many of them trained as Stephen Minister volunteers)
who visit & stay in contact with shut-in members and members in
institutional settings.
The Celebrate Recovery Leadership Team
is responsible for setting up and training volunteers and running the Celebration Recovery Program.
