Eight Recovery Principles 1. Realize I’m not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and my life is unmanageable. ”Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor.” Matthew 5:3 2. Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him, and that He has the power to help me recover. ”Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4 3. Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control. ”Happy are the meek.“ Matthew 5:5 4. Openly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself and to another person whom I trust. "Happy are the pure in heart." Matthew 5:8 5. Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life. "Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires." Matthew 5:6 6. Evaluate all my relationships, offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others when possible, except when doing so would harm them or others. "Happy are the merciful." Matthew 5:7 "Happy are the peacemakers." Matthew 5:9 7. Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His work for my life and gain the power to follow His will. 8. Yield myself to be used by God to bring this good news to others, both by my example and by my words. “Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.” Matthew 5:l0 |
Many things disrupt our daily lives and keep us
distracted from our relationship with God and our families. This
program is all about recovery and restoring balance in our lives!
Addictions come in all shapes, sizes, and colors--alcohol
dependency, food addiction, chemical dependency, gambling, and even
shopping addictions. From this point forward, the solution is to start making wise choices and depend on Christ’s power to help make changes in your life. This program helps people face up to their own poor choices and what they can do about them.
HOW IS THIS PROGRAM DIFFERENT? Celebrate Recovery is a faith-based, twelve-step program designed to help persons deal with destructive hurts, habits, and hang-ups. The program’s Eight Principles are centered on the things Jesus taught in the Sermon On The Mount, especially the Beatitudes. A summary of these sayings helps us realize that Jesus was talking about eight ways to be happy--really happy! Celebrate Recovery addresses all types of habits, hurts, and hang-ups. It is a large “umbrella” program under which a limitless number of issues can be addressed.
TELL ME MORE! Fellowship and accountability are two important components of spiritual growth. Confidentiality is a basic program requirement. What is shared in the group stays in the group!
WE WORK TOGETHER! Built on the Biblical principles of real community, our program is fellowship-focused, not individual-focused. With small group interaction and the support of a caring community, we grow and get better together. Celebrate Recovery produces people who are themselves experiencing recovery and therefore want to help others find recovery in Christ. This is the final step of recovery. We cannot control all that happens to us, but we can control our responses. True and lasting recovery happens only when you surrender to Christ. Then the healing process can begin. You are invited to become an active, vital part of this recovering community at West Market Street United Methodist Church. Come join us!
WHEN & WHERE DOES IT MEET? The program includes dinner (donations). Childcare provided upon request.
