Companions in Christ - The Way of Discernment Discernment is the ancient spiritual practice of recognizing and choosing God’s intention or will for us. Rooted in listening prayer, it serves to guide us in the way that leads to life. This study, the newest in the Companions in Christ series, focuses on discernment practices for individuals and small groups, but also points to the elements and basic processes of discernment for congregational use and larger church structures. It is a valuable guide to a new way of “being church,” especially for church leaders. Sign up online or contact Nancy Hamilton (336-275-4587 (VM 12) or nhamilton@wmsumc.org). |

Invitation to Psalms You are invited to take part in a ten-week in-depth study of the book of Psalms, often called “the prayer book of the Bible.” This short-term study follows the Disciple model of daily reading with weekly meetings centered around a brief video and discussion of the previous week’s reading material. During our time together, we will examine the Psalms as prayers portraying every human emotion and discover together how the Psalms can help us as we endeavor to meet God in prayer. We will look at how, as poetry, the Psalms portray God to us in unique ways. And we will learn to understand them as varied expressions of faith. Sign up online or contact Nancy Hamilton (336-275-4587 (VM 12) or nhamilton@wmsumc.org). |

Beth Moore Study - Believing God: Experiencing a Fresh
Explosion of Faith Cost: $20.00 Two sessions available: Sunday evenings – 5:30 -7:30, January 17 – March 14 (childcare provided upon request) - Leaders: Beth Loseke and Lee Ann Clark Wednesday mornings – 9:30 - 11:30, January 20 – March 17 (childcare provided) - Leaders: Mary Elizabeth Sandlin and Sarah Stanley This 10 week study is based on Isaiah 43:10 and explores what it means to not only believe in God but to believe Him. Do you take God at His Word, believing what He has told you, or do you just believe in His existence and the salvation He offers? Beth Moore came face-to-face with this question well into adulthood. At first, her response to God was, "Lord, of course I believe in You. I've believed in You all my life." Over time, the Holy Spirit led her to understand He was saying, "I didn't ask you to believe in Me. I asked you to believe Me." Through studying the lives of Abraham, Moses, and others from Hebrews 11 as examples of persons who believed God, Beth encourages women to deepen their own trust in God and receive a fresh word from Him.
