Habitat for Humanity Playhouse Build

WMSUMC Habitat Organizer:

Justin Redfern, justin.m.redfern@gmail.com

DETAILS:

1. Prep Week will be April 1-4 at Alamance Presbyterian Church at their picnic shelter.  This week consists of lots of cutting and painting.  Habitat provides all the materials and the group of volunteers receive guidance from a "lead".  This person will have us sawing and painting and assembling the bases for each playhouse.  Please see the link below to sign up and sign a waiver as a volunteer.  Typically, there are spots for those who want to donate/prepare lunch as well.

2. Build Day will be April 13th at the Restore in Greensboro off of Gate City Blvd (not the one on Battleground).  This will be an 8am to 5pm work day.  We'll put together, paint and shingle a new playhouse for a child in our community and Habitat will provide the tools, materials, paint, and the instructions to make it easy as pie. We will receive a "sign up" website for this from Habitat in the not too distant future.

Note:  If you are a previous volunteer through Habitat, and have created a VOMO account in the past, please sign in to your existing account, then place the link in your search bar.

A Few Housekeeping Items for Work Days:

1.  The volunteer forms show a 16 years or older requirement.  However, by 1pm on Build day (April 13th), there will be lots of painting and finishing touches for the house. This is a great time for children to participate! If you have a child younger than 16 who is comfortable with power tools, please speak directly with our organizer, Justin Redfern.

2. What to wear/bring:  Bring work gloves, eye protection, and wear work clothes.  Wearing work clothes is a must for both days.  It's fun getting your hands dirty, but you're definitely getting dirty.  You'll want to bring your own water bottle.  There will be water and snacks on site, but depending on the weather, it can be nice to have some extra fluids.

3.  Keep an eye on the weather!  We'll pray for 60's and sunny, but I'll also bring a rain jacket!

4. Lunches are provided.  And you can sign up to volunteer to provide lunches during the work week.  Lunch on the day of the build is typically pizza.  If you have specific dietary requirements, I recommend bringing a sack lunch.

BACKGROUND INFO:

WMSUMC enjoys a long standing relationship with Habitat For Humanity of Greater Greensboro.  Over the last few years, we've participated in the playhouse build as our contribution. Our goal is to move toward sponsoring full house builds in our community in partnership with this great organization.

About once a year, Habitat for Humanity raises funds for the homes they build in the greater Greensboro area.  If you want to know more about this team and their contributions to our community, please go here: https://habitatgreensboro.org/
